CLANTON, AL (WBRC) - Authorities in Chilton County seized $500,000 worth of marijuana plants Wednesday.
The Chilton County Sheriff's Department said its Marijuana Eradication Task Force seized the plants Wednesday during a raid in southern Chilton County, about 3.5 miles off of County Road 528. Deputies had to use a helicopter and a net to gather the plants because it was too deep in the forest to reach it by vehicle.
Investigators said the owner of the property had no idea the plants were on the land. No one is custody.
Deputies say the plan to bury the plants to destroy them, which are worth about $500,000 on the street.
