Birmingham City Council votes down computer fix

By Ashley Nix

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Fixing finances in Birmingham is not any easier when the computer system is faulty.  Mayor William Bell says it is a difficult system to keep the books and not enough people are trained to use it.

On Tuesday, Bell asked city councilors to hire a firm to correct problems, but councilors voted it down.

Some councilors say they were not given enough information, others say they want to know exactly how the $90,000 will be used.

Bell says not fixing the system could delay going to the bond market for federal money and delay audits.
