BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – One of Birmingham's oldest stadiums is getting a facelift this fall.
The skyboxes at Legion Field will be renovated later this month. They will be painted, get new carpeting and new upholstery on the theatre style seats.
Crews will work during the week so the boxes will be cleared out by game day Saturdays. The city is giving $500,000 for the project.
"We're excited that the city has seen fit to infuse us with some additional funds," says stadium manager, Kenneth Blackledge. "So we can compete in the current day atmosphere of football games."
Also in an effort to stay competitive, the stadium is also getting a second video tube on the north end of the field. It should be ready to go for UAB's first home game on September 2nd.
