BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The state's unemployment rate remains stubbornly stuck at 10.3%, but that doesn't mean there aren't any jobs out there. Need proof? Just look in Hoover where 150 new jobs are on the line in the next 5 days.
"That's more opportunity for more people," said Marissa Bell, one of the applicants looking for a job at the new Kohl's store in Hoover. "It gives me an opportunity and I hope I can be one of the 150 people to get a job there."
Bell hopes she can call herself a Kohl's employee in the next few days after sitting down for an interview Sunday during the first day of a 5-day job fair to fill 150 new jobs at the new store opening in September in The Grove shopping center.
"It was very different, because I have never been in a group interview before," Bell said. "So they do group interviews, they call us, it was different, but it was cool."
"It was a very easy process," said Carla Humphries, also applying for a Kohl's job. "They work well with you. It's not intimidating at all."
Humphries also had her resume polished up before heading into the Hampton iInn because she knows this many new jobs is going to attract hundreds of applications.
"I'm one of the few people that have been unemployed for a while," Humphries said. "There are a lot of unemployed people that need jobs, especially people coming straight out of school, and Kohl's is giving us that opportunity."
"It's absolutely great at this time, especially with the unemployment the way it is and 150 jobs, I'm sure there will be a lot of applications filled out for those positions, but this is gonna make The Grove shopping center more popular and we hope to have even more businesses moving in over the next several years," said Hoover Mayor Tony Petelos.
The job fair runs through Thursday, here's a list of the days, times, location, and a contact number if you'd like to apply:
