HOOVER, AL (WBRC) - Hoover city officials say the deck that collapsed this past weekend at the Waterford Landing apartments was not inspected after another deck at the same apartment complex collapsed earlier in the month.
City officials told FOX6 News the deck which collapsed Saturday night was not re-inspected after a deck at the same apartment complex collapsed July 4th, killing one person and injuring several others. No one was killed in Saturday's deck collapse.
City building inspectors and a structural engineer hired by the apartment owners have been inspecting all of the decks in the complex since the first collapse, but said they had not made it to that building before Saturday's latest collapse.
The city of Hoover's executive director also said Wednesday the city has no plans to change its requirements that decks only be inspected once, when the structures are initially built.
