BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A trip to Orange Beach for a meeting of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama will cost Jefferson County taxpayers about $4,000.
Next week, the Jefferson Co. Commission will vote on spending more than $3,000 to send Commissioner George Bowman and two staffers to the meeting in late August. The commission already approved sending Commissioner Bobby Humphryes at a cost of under a $1,000.
Humphryes lost his re-electon bid in a runoff for the county commission, but said Wednesday the trip is still needed.
"We are still county commissioners until November," Humphreys said. "I think it's a lot of talk about nothing."
"Professional development for county commissioners is needed," Bowman said. "You just can't step into this job and think you can know everything about the job about county government."
