AYP reports to grade schools' performances

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - Monday is a big day for public schools across our state to see which schools make the grade. The AYP or Adequate Yearly Progress report comes out. The State Department of Education will reveal which schools achieved AYP and which ones did not.

Last year, 86% of Alabama schools made the grade, a 3% increase over 2008. State Schools Superintendent Dr. Joe Morton says he is pleased with the progress of schools statewide. "We're doing our best," said Morton. "We're making progress. We have never not showed gain since that law was put in place in Alabama."
