Cooling station welcomes people during heat advisory

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A heat advisory is in place as temperatures are expected to hit 98 degrees and with the feel like temperature being 105 degrees.

That kind of heat can be dangerous, so it is important to try to stay cool and hydrated.

The city of Birmingham is welcoming people into a cooling center at the Boutwell Auditorium. It opened at 10:00 a.m. Thursday.

The cooling offers people a place to cool down and drink water during temperatures in the 90s.  They are especially inviting people who may spend a majority of their day outdoors.

The Boutwell is not the only cooling center. City officials say any public city facility such as rec centers and libraries are also being opened and used as cooling centers.

These cooling centers will all be open until 5:00 p.m. and open again at 10:00 a.m.
