BJCC director announces plans to retire

By Ashley Nix

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Jack Fields, Executive Director of the BJCC, said Wednesday he has plans to retire by mid 2011.

Fields, in a letter to the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Complex board, asked for a six month extension to get his exit and retirement strategy together.  His original contract ends in December 2010.

Board members had a discussion Wednesday behind closed doors about the request, in executive session, but afterwards took no motions regarding Fields request.

It's likely the matter could appear at the boards next called meeting.
