UAB gets high marks from U.S. News & World Report

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – Eleven different medical specialties at UAB have been named among the nation's top 50 in 16 categories by U.S. News & World Report.

According to the magazine, 4,852 hospitals were evaluated with UAB gaining high marks in 11 different categories. Six of UAB's categories were in the top 25.

Highlights for UAB Hospital this year include:
- Rheumatology program, 11th
- Kidney disorders, 13th
- Gynecology, 17th
- Geriatrics, 24th
- Pulmonary, 24th
- Urology, 24th
- Heart and Heart Surgery, 31st
- Neurology and Neurosurgery, 31st
- Cancer, 39th
- Ear, Nose and Throat, 42nd
- Gastroenterology, 42nd

UAB was one of only 152 hospitals and is the only hospital in Alabama or Mississippi to rank high enough to make it onto the Best Hospitals list. In 2009, UAB made the list with 3 less categories than 2010.

The report was released in the magazine's 20th annual "America's Best Hospitals" issue. It can be seen online now or will be on newsstands on July 27th.
