JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department has brought some back civilian employees who were cut last year amid county budget problems.
15 of the 21 laid off workers will be returning, including administrative clerks, jail cooks and laborers. Two employees had already returned due to attrition. The remaining four workers found jobs elsewhere.
The cost of bringing the workers back will be $114,000 through September when the current fiscal year ends.
The positions may only be temporary, because there is no guarantee the money will be there on October first, when the next fiscal year begins.
