HUFFMAN, AL (WBRC) - A house fire in Huffman forced a fire battalion chief to call for a second alarm on Tuesday morning.
The Birmingham Fire Department says two older residents were in the home when the fire started, but both were able to get out safely before help arrived. It happened at a home in the 800 block of Twin Lake Drive in the Huffman area.
Birmingham fire received the call around 9:00 a.m. and firefighters are still working to cool off hot spots.
The fire left behind heavy damage throughout the entire house.
At one point, the battalion chief had to call for a second alarm simply for the manpower. He says, in this heat, he wanted to make sure his firemen could rotate and rest.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
Meanwhile, the two residents are with a neighbor.
