BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham Mayor William Bell said the city of Birmingham will provide financial support next year for Thunder on the Mountain.
Bell joined FOX6 News anchors Rick Journey and Janice Rogers at FOX6 Sunday night to watch the annual fireworks show atop Red Mountain. After the show, he told them the city would provide $10,000 next year to fund the show.
In the days leading up to the annual Independence Day celebration, there were questions about funding. Several private donors and organizations, including the Alabama Education Association, provided more than $20,000 last week to make up for the show's funding deficit left when the city council voted not to provide additional funding.
Sunday's 20 minute fireworks show was held at Vulcan Park. Good weather drew thousands of people to neighborhoods surrounding the statue to see the show, which was simulcast on FOX6.
