Agreement reached on Birmingham budget

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – Birmingham's mayor and city council have come to an agreement on how to fix the city's budget shortfall.
In a joint meeting Thursday, Mayor William Bell proposed taking out a $15-million loan to prevent pay cuts or unpaid holidays for city workers. After an hour of debate, council members agreed with the proposal.

Bell will now try to secure the loan to prevent the council from dipping into the city's reserves.

Councilors will formally vote on the budget at Tuesday's council meeting.
