Birmingham mayor, city council reach budget agreement

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham mayor William Bell and Birmingham city councilors have reached an agreement on the fiscal year 2011 budget, which is supposed to take effect July 1st.

To balance the budget, city officials have agreed to try and borrow $15 million.  If the loan is approved, it would prevent city employees from taking a pay cut, or losing 7 paid holidays.

The council must still vote on the budget.  For now, the city is operating under the fiscal year 2010 budget.
