MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - A recount of the Republican candidates for governor could finish tomorrow.
The state party had expected it to take place today, but two counties will not begin the recount until Friday.
The Tim James campaign says 18 counties still have not reported and there are results from one county that they are not happy with. That county is Mobile County. According to a spokesman for Tim James, Mobile County's recount numbers, which have James at a 50+ vote loss, are not correct. He says they are waiting for the county to sort out some confusion and when that happens they will be just eight votes behind Bentley.
That number though is for just 49 counties. The other 18 are all expected in by Friday morning. Some of those include Blount, Pickens and Hale.
James' spokesman says the campaign is looking at the 8 vote lead as a positive since they have made up votes. It is likely that even if James does manage to come in second, he will not make it onto the July 13th Republican runoff ballot.
Alabama's secretary of state has already certified Robert Bentley and Bradley Byrne for that race.
James' spokesman says there are a lot of rumors around and they are taking the recount one day at a time.
