Administrators asking for tuition hike for UA system

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - Administrators at the three schools in the University of Alabama system are asking for double digit tuition increases heading into the fall semester.

At the University of Alabama and UAB, trustees are looking at a 12.9% increase. At UA Huntsville, tuition could go up by 15%.

University administrators say funding is down $170-million since 2008.

Trustees are scheduled to vote on the proposals Friday.

The administrators plan to ask trustees Thursday to approve a $66 million construction project. They hope to demolish old dorms and build a new residence hall with nearly a thousand beds.
