BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - After its plans were denied last month by Birmingham's Design Review Committee, attorneys for Chick-fil-A appealed. The hearing was Wednesday, and after asking lots of questions, committee members did not make a decision about the appeal.
Attorney Charlie Beavers, who represents the restaurant, says he does not think the DRC committee has legal rights to deny a restaurant because of a drive-thru. The drive-thru was the basis of neighbors opposing the restaurant in the first place.
Dozens showed up to Wednesday's meeting, saying the Chick-fil-A did not fit in with the rest of the area and would cause a traffic nightmare.
The appeals committee meets again Friday morning at 8:30 at Birmingham City Hall.
