BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Will Birmingham be the next city to outlaw texting while driving?
A public safety committee meeting on the issue of a city-wide texting ban produced more questions than answers on Wednesday.
Birmingham City Council members are concerned that specific details of the ban need to be fixed before the issue comes up for a vote.
City Councilman Johnathan Austin says while there are some gray areas on how it might be enforced, he still supports the ban. "I'm in support of protecting the citizens, because texting while driving has become a big issue," says Austin.
The council will take up the issue at a meeting next month.
