JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - The hiring of a new chief financial officer for Jefferson County is raising questions among county commissioners.
Jeff Hager started his new position this week. His duties will include overseeing the county's finances, as well as, working to lower the county's sewer bond debt. He was most recently the CFO of Kelly Aerospace in Montgomery and says, in spite of the county's challenges, he looks forward to the job.
"I've had extensive experience in handling these situations so I believe the county has some good future ahead of it and I want to be part of making sure it stays solid," says Hager.
Both Commissioner Bobby Humphryes and Jim Carns say this new hire comes at a bad time considering the county is under a hiring freeze.
The starting pay for the CFO position begins at $149,000.
