BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Jefferson County is prepared to start a recount in the Republican race for governor as soon as 6 a.m. Thursday.
Jefferson County Probate Judge Alan King says once he is assured that the Tim James campaign will pay between $40,000 and $50,000, they will move forward.
The James Campaign has sent a petition asking for the recount to Jefferson County Republican Party Chair Gilbert Douglas, who in turn forwarded the request to Judge King. James is asking 40 counties to recount balllots from the June 1st election, hoping to make up a 167 vote defecit to second place finisher Dr. Robert Bentley.
