Deadline looms for Bessemer Cutoff bingo halls

BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) - Electronic bingo halls in the Bessemer cut-off face a 6:00 p.m. deadline on Friday to shutdown.

The closings come after a Supreme Court ruling gave Governor Bob Riley ultimate power in the prosecution of the cases over Attorney General Troy King. The deadline coincides with the time that ruling becomes finalized.

Fairfield City Attorney Michael Trucks says the facilities will stay open until the last possible moment.
"They have all acknowledged to me that they are prepared to close on a timely basis unless some miracle occurs," said Trucks

Michael Trucks says unless they shut-down, bingo facilities will be subject to raids by the governor's illegal gambling task force.
