MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - A Pinson man has been arrested for sex crimes against a 14-year-old girl, according to Alabama Attorney General Troy King.
King, in a statement Thursday afternoon to FOX6 News, said Brandon Wayne Wilemon, 27, is charged with sexual abuse, enticement and sending obscene material to a child. The charges were issued by a grand jury in Blount County, who heard evidence in Wilemon's indictment on April 27.
Authorities said Wilemon was informally involved with youth ministries of various churches he visited in Blount County. He was arrested by the Blount County Sheriff's Office.
"It is an unfortunate fact of our times that we must remain on guard against those who would prey upon the innocence of children," King said in the statement. "Predators may be skilled at deception, and may try to hide within our churches or other trusted institutions. As responsible adults, we must all be vigilant and we must practice that vigilance at all times and in all places as a front line defense of children."
If convicted, King said Wilemon faces up to 20 years in prison.
