BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Jefferson County might be getting out of the nursing home business.
Commissioners said Wednesday they would vote on a contract next week to hire a consultant to advise the county on marketing and selling the Jefferson County Rehabilitation Center, the county's home for low-income residents.
Commission President Bettye Fine Collins said Wednesday the county doesn't need to be in the health care business. She said the county could make money by selling the property.
Collins said if the home is sold, residents currently there would either stay under new ownership or be relocated.
