BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham Police were involved in a shooting in a public housing community in Wenonah.
Police responded to a report of persons with guns. A foot pursuit ensued as officers located and approached the suspects.
A suspect brandished a firearm at the officer before he was shot in the a leg by Birmingham police.
It happened around 7pm in the 2900 block of John Bryan Road, near Wenonah High School.
The wounded suspect was transported to UAB Hospital. His wound is not believed to be life-threatening. The other suspect was apprehended unharmed. Police recovered weapons from both.
Their identities will be withheld until charges are announced.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation and Birmingham Police's Internal Affairs Division are also conducting investigations of the shooting.
