Manager accused of selling stolen merchandise to competition

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - An Etowah County grocery store manager is accused of stealing cigarettes from her store then selling them to a competitor.

The sheriff's department say 46-year-old Brenda Bain worked for Food Valu in Sardis.

Deputies say she stole cartons of cigarettes and sold them to Fred and Rebecca Whitfield. The two own "Woody's Grocery" in Walnut Park.

The Whitfields are charged with receiving stolen property.

Bain faces several charges including first degree theft.
