JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) – Jefferson County Commissioner Shelia Smoot says she will be making a push to stop the county from attempting recollect refund money from the occupational tax lawsuit.
Jefferson County attorneys say that the recent Alabama Supreme Court ruling that makes them refund the money from the occupational tax will also allow them to recollect the $37.8 million in funds.
Smoot says she will be offering a resolution in committee on Wednesday to stop the recollection of the money.
"(This) will be too much to drag the taxpayers through the mud," says Smoot. "It's time to move on from the occupational tax."
