BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A suspect was shot and killed during a home invasion on Jolley Road in Jefferson County on Sunday night. Jefferson County Sheriffs deputies responded to the call shortly before 8:00 p.m.
Randy Christian with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says deputies responding found the 62-year-old homeowner walking up the driveway up arrival. Inside the house, they found 54-year-old Preston Jenkins already dead with a wound to the left side of his stomach.
Deputies have questioned and released the homeowner.
Authorities believe the victim had a past relationship with the homeowner's ex-wife, who was on the scene at the time. It is believed that the victim had forced his way into the home.
After the investigation, the District Attorney's Office will decide if charges should be brought.
