Damage caused by strong storms

Tuscaloosa, AL (WBRC) - A cluster of storms caused a significant amount of damage over Thursday night.

Tuscaloosa was one of the hardest hit areas of Thursday night's storms. The Sam's club on Skyland Boulevard had a window blown out and the nearby K.F.C. sustained minor wind damage to the exterior of the building.

Some of the worst damage was at the Graceland Apartments. Four families were displaced after the roof was blown away from a unit. Thankfully, no one was hurt there. The Red Cross is assisting the families that were displaced.

Utility crews are still working to restore power in some areas. About 11,000 people in central Alabama are without power; eight thousand of those in the Birmingham metro, 1,200 in west Alabama including Tuscaloosa, and about 1,400 in east Alabama.

A tree fell across the roadway at Fourth Avenue and 84th Street in Birmingham. It missed the homes nearby.
