Davis and Sparks exchange words over job attendance

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - The latest political exchange from the two Democrats running for governor of Alabama concerns who is showing up for work.

In Birmingham Monday, Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks says Alabama Congressman Artur Davis should give up his salary for failing to vote on 80% of the votes over the last month.

"There is only one thing my opponent has to do is vote. At the Department of Agriculture we haven't missed a beat," remarked Sparks.

When contacted by Fox6 New, Davis disagrees. "It's blatant hypocrisy. Voters see through it. It's what candidates do when they are two touchdowns behind with two minutes to go in the game."

Davis also accused Sparks of using his Birmingham news conference of staying off the job to campaign.
