HOOVER, AL (WBRC) - After closed for almost a year, the Hoover Senior Center opens again.
The facility was forced to close last June when roadwork on Municipal Drive caused structural problems to the building.
Residents, city officials, and center staff members attended the grand reopening Monday afternoon.
The cracks in the floors have been repaired, there is additional parking, and panic buttons were added throughout the facility for safety.
Center officials said they are thrilled to see it open again.
"This is great," said the manager, Dana Stewart. "We had a great crowd for all our events today. We like to think of this as home away from home."
Hoover's city councilors authorized $552,000 for emergency repairs to the building, and said they are happy with the outcome.
"It's a great place to come and hangout. They get a tremendous amount of use out of it," said Hoover city council president Gary Ivey. "We think it is one of the greatest things going on in the community right now."
The Hoover Senior Center is open on Mondays through Fridays from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
