BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- Birmingham mayor William Bell asked all Birmingham city employees to take a 10% pay cut Monday afternoon, to deal with the city's budget deficit.

Mayor Bell told employees at a mandatory meeting that this is the only way to have a balanced budget for fiscal year 2011, which begins July 1.  Bell plans to present the budget proposals to city council members Tuesday.

Mayor Bell says he also plans to cut his pay by 10%, and will ask city councilors to take a cut as well.
