One escapee still at large after walking away from work release

WINSTON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) – One inmate who walked away from a Winston County work release is still on the loose after another inmate turned himself in.

25-year-old David Allen Hampton and 24-year-old Nelson Edward Tidwell walked away from the work release center on Thursday night around midnight.

Hampton called the Winston County Jail on Monday morning and asked for someone to come pick him up. He was taken into custody by Jefferson County deputies and handed over to Winston County deputies at Corridor X.

Tidwell had been spotted in Forestdale with Hampton, but he was not at the location when Hampton surrendered. He is described as 5'6", 135 lbs. white male with blue eyes and brown hair.

If you see Nelson Edward Tidwell, you are asked to contact local authorities.
