BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - An entertainment district in downtown Birmingham will be the focus of two city council committee meetings on Monday.
Mayor William Bell wants the council to extend part of the city's current lodging and occupational tax for another 30 years to help pay for a $70 million Westin Hotel and entertainment district that would be built next to the BJCC. The full council could vote on the tax extension tomorrow.
Also on Monday, the mayor will hold a closed-door meeting with all city workers to discuss his budget proposal and the potential for cuts because of the city's cash-strapped finances.
