NORTHPORT, AL (WBRC) - Northport Police are investigating the city's third homicide of the past month.

On Tuesday night around 11:30, a person was shot and killed by a shotgun blast in the Green Village housing community according to police spokesman Lt. Kerry Card.

Homicide investigators took a suspect into custody near the scene at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Northport Police Chief Robert Green will have a press conference later this afternoon and release more information in the case.
Last month, police charged two parents in the death of their 4-month-old infant. Medical examiners ruled the baby's injuries were caused by shaking. Miguel Juan and Moria Lopez face capital murder charges in connection with the crime.
On April 28th, police believe Christopher Collins and Rashad Hayword attempted to rob a man going into a home in the 3400 block of 18th street. A gun went off during struggle between the victim and Collins. Collins later died and Hayward was charged as a result of Collins' death during the commission of a crime.
