BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Parking in your front yard in Birmingham is illegal now. The law went into effect at midnight on Monday morning.
The new parking law bans people from parking cars in their front yard, whether they are running or not.
City councilor Johnathan Austin sponsored the bill. He says this law was about listening to residents. "As I've said, no one wants to live next to a parking lot," says Austin. "So, what we've done is listened to our residents who are crying out for help."
If police find a car in your front yard, the fine is $50 for each car parked illegally.
