ALABASTER, AL (WBRC) – A student from Thompson High School will be getting the thrill of his life this weekend.
11th grader Josh Carden, a special needs student, was surprised at school on Monday with tickets to the Aaron's 499 race at Talladega Superspeedway. Carden, a huge NASCAR fan, has never attended an actual race.
The tickets were provided by Representative Cam Ward and Alabama City Councilor Jim McClain. Donations have been taken up so that Carden can purchase race memorabilia and meals during the race.
Carden will be accompanied by his special education teacher, Pat Hamrick.
"Even through all of his pain and struggles, he always has a smile for us at school," says Assistant Principal Keri Johnson. "He loves NASCAR, and has never been able to attend a race, so this day will be so much fun for him!"
