Grandmother wins wrongful death lawsuit against DHR

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A Birmingham grandmother has won a wrongful death lawsuit against two workers with the Department of Human Resources.

16-month-old Dominic Ware was killed by his mother's boyfriend in 2006.

The child's grandmother filed a wrongful death lawsuit, saying the DHR workers failed to ensure that Ware's mother complied with a court-ordered drug test and psychological evaluation.

A Jefferson County jury agreed with the grandmother and awarded her a $750-thousand judgement.
