State appliance rebate program begins

MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - If you want to take advantage of the state's appliance rebate, you'd better act quickly.

By noon Monday, the first day of the rebates, most of half of the state's $4-million allotment has already been accounted for.

The rebates apply to refrigerators, dishwashers and clothes washer.  The deal can only be used to trade in a model you already own and the new machine must be an energy star appliance.

"Refrigerators are the biggest seller so far and second is the dishwashers," said Shirley Jenkins, the manager of the Sears store at the Riverchase Galleria.  She says if customers want in on the deal, they should hurry and reserve a rebate online.  "Because once you reserve the rebate you have up to 15 days to actually make the purchase."
