Birmingham, AL (WBRC) - The Birmingham City Council will hold a special called meeting Monday to discuss the city's budget and what options they have to deal with the estimated $77 million deficit.
In preperation for the meeting, Mayor William Bell said he would give Councilors a budget proposal this weekend. City Councilors Jay Roberson, Roderick Royall and Johnathan Austin said they did not receive the proposal.
Councilor Austin said even without seeing the proposal he has some ideas of ways he hopes the city will approach its deficit. Mayor Bell said there are some things he wants to make sure are not options including cutting jobs and cutting law enforcement. Mayor Bell also said the City Council has made it clear to him that they want to take drastic measures to bring down the deficit, but that does not include borrowing.
