Tour of former Scrushy home benefits ASO

Vestavia Hills, Al (WBRC) - Hundreds of people spent the day touring the 49-room home of former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy.

The 2010 Decorator's Showhouse kicked off Saturday. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

"We had people standing and waiting to come in and it's been a steady flow all day long," said Nan Teninbaum, publicity chairman for the Showcase Committee.

After being hit with a nearly $3 billion judgement for a massive accounting fraud scandal at Healthsouth, the Scrushy home was put on the market and the Alabama Symphony decided it would be the perfect place for their annual fundraiser.

"You have transitional.  You have contemporary.  You have shabby chic and you have fine antiques. So there is something for everyone," Teninbaum says.

Christopher Lindsey and a friend toured the home.  Lindsey said he's most excited to see the swimming pool with the music note on the bottom.   "I just recommend the public come out and take this opportunity to bring the family out," Lindsey said.  "It's not everyday you get to look at a house like this."
