Two arrested in Gardendale home burglary

GARDENDALE, AL (WBRC) - Two suspects were arrested Thursday in connection with a pre-dawn home burglary in Gardendale.

Gardendale Police Chief Mike Walker, in a statement Thursday to FOX6 News, said officers were called at 4:30 a.m. to a home in Longwood Drive on a report of a burglary in progress.  When they arrived, the homeowner told them he had heard a noise and went to investigate when he encountered one of the suspects.  The suspect then ran from the house and was joined by a second suspect, who both tried fo flee in a vehicle parked in the driveway of a house next door.

However, the homeowner said the suspects had lost the key to the car and could not start it, so they fled the car and ran into the woods behind his residence.

Police officers arrived and used a K-9 to search the area.  The first suspect was captured at about 7:20 a.m. in Fultondale.  The second suspect was captured later in the morning.

No one was hurt.  Both suspects were being held in the Gardendale City Jail.
