Convicted sex offender charged with attempted rape

CENTER POINT, AL (WBRC) - A convicted sex offender has been charged with the attempted rape of a 14-year-old girl.

Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale says 28-year-old James May was arrested Tuesday. The sheriff says May forced his way into a Center Point home and exposed himself to the teenager and committed lewd sex acts.

Hale says deputies were already preparing to arrest May for failing to register as a sex offender when a deputy recognized him from the girl's description.
