Suspected thieves get stuck in yard

GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) - Two suspected thieves were arrested after investigators said they're getaway vehicle got stuck in a victim's front yard.

Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin, in a statement Friday to FOX6 News, said Charles Eldrige Durley, 32, of Piedmont, and Edward Barry Williams, 39, of Wellington, were arrested Thursday for theft of property.

Sheriff Entrekin said the incident happened Thursday at a residence on Appalachian Highway.  The individuals were attempting to steal four transmissions from the residence. While making their getaway, their truck got stuck in the front yard.

Investigators said Durley and Williams abandoned the truck, along with a cell phone, helping to aid them in quickly identifying the suspects.

Durley was being held Friday afternoon in the Etowah County Detention Center on $2,500 bond.  Williams was released Friday on $2,500 bond.
