HOOVER, AL (WBRC) - A Hoover officer broke his leg during a chase that led to the arrests of two robbery and burglary suspects.
Hoover Police, in a statement Friday to FOX6 News, said the incident began Wednesday night at about 11:13 p.m., when officers were called to a home on Boxwood Drive with a report of an armed robbery and burglary at the home. As officers arrived, they noticed the suspect's vehicle, a black pickup truck, fleeing the area.
Police said they chased the suspects onto Interstate 65 northbound. The chase ended near 34th Avenue and 17th Street North in Birmingham, where the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers pursued, and that's when one of the Hoover officers broke his leg. Hoover Police said, despite the broken leg, the officer continued the foot pursuit and tackled the suspect.
The other suspect was apprehended by another Hoover Police officer.
The injured Hoover officer was taken to Brookwood Hospital, where he was treated and released.
The suspects, Alonzo Miller, III, 45, of Birmingham, and Anthony Ladell Ware, 31, of Birmingham, were arrested and charged with robbery and burglary. They were held in jail without bond.
