TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - One man was charged and a second in custody Monday night in connection with a big marijuana bust in Tuscaloosa County.
The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department, in a statement to FOX6 News, said Mario Ramirez, 37, was charged with trafficking marijuana. A second, unidentified suspect was in custody.
Investigators said at about 12:41 p.m. Monday, deputies stopped a 2000 Ford Ranger at mile marker 62 on Interstate 59 for a traffic violation. Further investigation led deputies to discover 54 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $54,000.
Ramirez was booked Monday into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $500,000 bond.
