Highway 22 closing for bridge repairs

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - People driving Highway 22 between Clanton and Maplesville will need to take an alternate route next week.

The Alabama Department of Transportation said Friday it will close Highway 22 at mile marker 55 beginning Monday at 8:30 a.m.  ALDOT said it is closing the road there in order to repair the bridge.

ALDOT said the bridge will be closed three to five days.

Motorists who normally drive Highway 22 will be detoured onto Highway 191 from near Maplesville to Jemison.  Message boards and signs will inform drivers of the detour.

ALDOT said the detour will add approximately 45 minutes to travel times between Clanton and Maplesville.
