Large amount of bingo halls to reopen in Bessemer

BESSEMER, AL (WBRC) - Several electronic bingo operations will open for business again on Friday.

As many as ten facilities that make up the Bessemer Cutoff Bingo Association Alliance plan to open by six. The group contends recent court rulings regarding the governor's task force on illegal gambling have given them the confidence to re-open. The alliance also has support from some elected leaders because their cities rely on electronic bingo revenue.

The alliance insists their machines comply with the law. "We do have a new game that tries to fit the six factors the supreme court is talking about. We have that in Lipscomb now," says bingo hall attorney Jim Stevens.

Electronic bingo operators say reopening will put about 600 people back to work.
