MONTGOMERY, AL (WBRC) - The Alabama Supreme Court will hear arguments next months involving a refund of Jefferson County's occupational tax.
The court announced Tuesday it will hear oral arguments on April 7th from the county and from attorneys representing county taxpayers.
In January 2009, a judge declared the county's occupational tax illegal and ordered the county to refund the tax to taxpayers. The Jefferson County Commission believes it should not have to pay the refund because a new occupational tax passed by the Alabama Legislature last August declared the old occupational tax legal.
