Suspect in custody for weekend murder

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A suspect was in custody Tuesday morning in connection with the weekend shooting death of a man in west Birmingham.

Birmingham Police, in a statement Tuesday to FOX6 News, said Michael Ward, 30, of Birmingham, is charged with murder and attempted murder.

The victim, Antonio King, 33, was found Saturday night lying in the middle of Tuscaloosa Ave. holding a two-year-old child. King died Monday from his injuries.

The toddler was also hit, but was expected to recover.

Police said Ward surrendered to police a short time after the incident.  He was being held in the Jefferson County Jail on $100,000 bail.
